Join Books for All and you’ll find it isn’t only a book group. Read on!

We have a relaxed approach to our book discussions which take place in each other’s homes. This means the group is limited to no more than ten members but we think that has the advantage of  all the members being able to take part.

We meet once a month, in the evening, throughout the year and, in January generally, choose the books for the year through chat, discussion, and agreement (with a few diversions thrown in).

Each member hosts an evening and provides some nibbles and drinks, wine included!

Books chosen for  2025

  • The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich
  • Have the Men had Enough by Margaret Forster
  • In Memorium by Alice Winn
  • Clear by Carys Davies
  • Precipice by Robert Harris
  • A Perfectly Good Man by Patrick Gale
  • Orbital by Samantha Harvey
  • The Place of Tides by James Rebanks
  • Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton
  • Mina’s Matchbox by Yoko Ogawa

At Christmas we have a fun get together with a theme, usually book related.

The group has a social aspect and some of us have recently started to meet up for occasional coffee mornings at Findra in Innerleithen, for the chance to discuss other books as well as just have a blether. On a couple of occasions some of the group have also had two/three nights away to enjoy book related themes, walk and take part in other activities such as book making.

A recent visit to the Private Library of Innerpeffrey in Perthshire was a big hit. This was Scotland’s first free public lending library founded in 1680. We had a guided tour, were able to read rare books from it’s diverse collection and were treated to overviews of some of the books from an extremely knowledgeable volunteer.

If you are interested in joining us please get in touch via the link or speak to the Groups Coordinator to see if there is a current vacancy.
