In this group we aim to consider the many aspects of Scottish history and culture throughout the ages – political, social, literary and artistic. Our approach is flexible – we follow where our interests take us rather than sticking to a specific agenda or
time-line.
Each month we choose a topic for discussion – or we go on a planned visit to an exhibition or place of interest. Topics so far have included – Early Scottish Christianity, The 18th Century Scottish Enlightenment, A visit to the exhibition of ‘The Scottish Colourists: Radical Perspectives’ at the Dovecot Studios.
Upcoming topics include – the Red Clyde-siders, Scotland in the 14th Century [post Bannockburn], The History of Medicine in Edinburgh – with possibly a visit to Surgeon’s Hall, Scotland and the Slave Trade…..to name but a few….
This is an open and welcoming group. We aim to enjoy learning new things about old places and past events. And enjoying ourselves in the process.
We meet at 10am on the fourth Thursday of each month. In the upstairs room of the Cross Keys Hotel in Northgate
